Sequillo
Sequillo is a new venture. Ownership is a 50% partnership of The Sadie Family and 50% shareholders by Cornel Spies Family Trust. Two families with a long standing history in wine came together because of our love for wine and the individual terroir of the Swartland region. We most recently combined our resources. The vineyard holding comes down to 8 hectares with 2 newly planted hectares and we intend to develop these vineyards and refine them. They are currently farmed organically and we increase our capacity of the infrastructure at The Sadie Family to be able to start the conversion of these vineyards over the next three years. We have already started with three hectares which are close in proximity to some of our own vineyards. The varieties already planted for this project are 60% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache Noir. We intend to experiment with grape varieties in future from Greece and Southern Italy as we need to find some varieties which retain acidity and freshness in our climate. The project also produces a white from 60% old vine Chenin Blanc, 20% Grenache Blanc, 10% Viognier and 10% Rousanne. Most of the existing vineyards are farmed in the goblet system "Bush Vine" and we intend to continue this old practice. The aim of the project is to produce wines which are unique and honest and display minerality as opposed to more opulent flavours.
